About Samba
Samba is a beautiful town of J&K State. Samba is located at 32.57° N 75.12° E. It has an average elevation of 384 metres (1259 feet). As of 2006 India census, Samba had a population of 20,261. Males constitute 65% of the population and females 35%. Samba has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84% and female literacy is 68%. In Samba, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

About Dogras
The Dogras are a Northern Indo-Aryan ethnic group in South Asia. They live predominantly in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir but also in adjoining areas of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, other parts of Kashmir, and Northeastern Pakistan. They speak their own language, Dogri which, in 2003, was recognized as a national language of India. Most Dogras are Hindus, but some are Muslims.

Infrastructure Facilities - State Government

J&K State has been alloted two Industrial Growth centres one at Samba at about 40 Kms located between National Highway on Jammu-Pathankot Road and Samba Railway Station. The other at 0mpura/ Lassipura (Kashmir Valley). The Indl. Growth Centre, Samba is currently under implementation through the Nodal Agency viz J&K State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (SIDCO).

The total cost of project is around Rs. 30.00 crores. The 1 st Phase of the project is likely to be completed by the end of current year with developed land upto ] 200 canals for allotment to the prospective Entrepreneur.

Infrastructure
The total land area of 6700 canals is being developed in phase manner:

Road Network
Keeping in view the total area of the growth centre and the Industrial plots of various dimensions a complete road network has been advised to provide access to the site to the number and type of vehicles using the road for the transporation of the raw material, finished goods. machinery and human beings. It is proposed to construct 28 Kms. road network in the growth centre.

Drainage and Sewage Facilities :
Appropriate drainage and sewerage facilities system has been de-signed including various culverts.

Power Distribution Systems
Keeping in view the requirement of the proposed industries, the total power load of the growth Centre is estimated at 35 MVA, for which a receiving station of 35 MVA capacity with sub-stations of suitable capacity (10 MVA, 10 MVA and 15 MVA are proposed. The power shall be drawn from Gladni link (of 240 MVA capacity). The Grid station would be laid by Power Development Deptt.

Water Supply and Distribution
The Growth centre is not likely to face any scarcity of water as it is situated on the bank of river Banaster having perennial flow of water.

Also underground water is available in sufficient quantity, compering the cost of lifting water and water treatment plant from the river Basanter bed as also in sinking tube-wells it was found economical to sink tube wells than to draw raw mater from the river and treat fit. The sinking of tube wells and construction of over-head tank are proposed at central locations for better and efficient distribution.

Telecommunication
J&K SIDCO has alloted land to Telecommunication Department for setting up of 1000 lines Exchange at Industrial Growth Centre, Samba.

Effluent Treatment Plant
A centralised effluent treatment plant is proposed with primary and secondary treatment facilities with upto date technology and equipment.

Quality Control and Testing Centre
To cater to the requirement of the small and medium industries in the growth centre, quality control and testing centre is proposed to be located or a convenient please within the growth Centre.

Other Related Facilities

a) Buildings:
For housing banks, insurance offices, fire fighting services office, telephone and telegraphs office police station, guest house, administrative offices for Industrial Department and related corporations/offices pertaining to Industries, etc. provision has been made for construction of building in Growth Centre under State plan, except for Telephone and Telegraph office, cost of which is covered undergrowth centre.

b) Social Facilities:
Similarly, school buildings, hospital building with hospital equipment, bus stand/stop facilities are proposed.

c) Housing Facilities:
200 Nos. of residential flats of 'A', 'B' and 'C' types have been proposed to meet the housing requirement of the people working in the growth centre. For future requirement housing flats area is earmarked.

d) Commercial Buildings:
A shopping complex with restaurant/eating establishment and recreational facilities have been planned. Besides 2 sites for hotels are earmarked, construction of which will be taken us by some private parties.

Activities of J&K SIDCO
J&K SIDCO is the nodal agency for promotion and development of medium and large scale industries in the State. It have been entrusted with the following important assignments of development of industry in the State :

* To conduct work for promotion of industry in the State by conducting seminars, helping entrepreneurs in obtaining LOI., etc.
* Identification of technically feasible and financially viable projects for the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
* Development of infrastructural facilities for medium/large scale industrial projects.
* Grant of financial assistance to industrial projects having investment upto Rs. 500 lacks and participation in the equity of selected joint/assisted sector projects.
* The Corporation has established 7 Industrial estates to provide infrastructure facilities at identified locations suitable for industrial development through out the length and breadth of the State. Within each Estate developed land is available at a very subsidized rate.

Industrial Growth Centres and Export Promotion Industrial Parks are being set up in both Jammu region and Kashmir valley separately, by way of acquiring land, constructing internal roads, affluent disposal facilities, providing water and power in the industrial estate. Amenities like Stations, Restaurant, Bank, Post Offices, Housing, Schools, Hospitals, Shopping Centres, Convention Centres etc. are the main infrastructure facilities. J&K SIDCO is also developing product specific Industrial Estates to fulfil the functional needs of certain industries like Textiles, Electronics and Software development, Food Processing etc.

The Corporation also offers a variety of financial assistance for setting up new units and for expansion/diversification/modernization of existing projects. For Medium and large scale projects including Tourism related and Micro Hydel Power Projects, the assistance can be availed in consortium arrangements with Central and State level institutions or banks.

RELIGIOUS PLACES NEAR SAMBA

Maa Vaishno Devi: Vaishno Devi Mandir is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Shakti, located in the hill of Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir, India. In Hinduism, Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Mother Goddess. The temple is near the town of Katra, in Udhampur district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,. It is one of the most revered places of worship in Northern India. The shrine is at an altitude of 5200 feet and a distance of approximately 12 kilometres (7.45 miles) from Katra.

Amarnath: Amarnath is one of the most famous of Hindu temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Jammu and Kashmir, Republic of India. The cave is situated at an height of 3888 m[3] about 141 km from the Kashmir's capital city of Srinagar. Inside the Amarnath Cave lies the ice Shiva Linga (along with two other ice formations representing Ganesh and Parvati) a natural formation of an ice stalagmite in the form of lingam. The temple is reported to be around 5000 years old[1] and is a popular pilgrimage destination for Hindus - about 400,000 people[2] visit during the 45 day season around the festival of Shravani Mela in July-August. Shri Sai Baba Temple: It is one of the biggest "SHIRDI SAI BABA TEMPLE" near Tirath Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu (J&K)

Raghunath Temple: It is located in the heart of the city and the main market is named after the temple complex. The complex consists of 17 temple complexes. However it is named after the main temple of Lord Rama, Sita Mata and Lakshman. There is hardly any image of deity which is not represented in temple complex.

Ranbirashwar Temple: It is the biggest Shiva temple in north India. This Temple has the biggest Lingam of 7ft. in black stone. There are 1.25 lakh small Lingams in two halls. There are huge images of Ganesha, Kartikya and a Bull in the verandah. On every Shivratri, a big mela is held at this temple.

Purmandal: It is about 40 kms from Jammu city. Purmandal is called as little Kashi. It is Located at the back of holy river Devika which is considered as holy and sacred as Gangas. A large number of people visit the shrine on Shivratri and Chaitra Choudeshi.

Chichi Mata: It is near Samba town and is being developed as a historic temple. It is also known as Pehla Darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi.

Shiv Khori: It is wonderful natural cave in the hillock in Reasi tehsil which contains a self made image of Lord Shiva. Exploration of its full length may bring startling facts like those present in the Luray caverns in Washington. On every Shivratri, a big fair is held here.

Bawey Wali Mata: Just 4 km from Bikram Chowk, there is an ancient temple of Kali Mata. The temple is inside the Fort called Bahu Fort on the name of its king, Raja Bahu Lochan, son of Jambu Lochan the founder of Jammu city. Pilgrims throng this temple everyday, but the rush on Tuesdays and Sundays is remarkable.

Baba Dansar: (10 km/6mile) This holy place is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Natural Shivling is seen there and mini water fall passes through.(Near Reasi)

Devi Pindi: 5 Km/3 mile motorable and then 4 Km/1.7 mile track.(Near Reasi)

Aghar Jitto: (6 Km/2.5 mile) Located on Reasi road has a statue of Baba Jitoo and his daughters, is a holy place visited by locals.

BEAUTIFUL VALLEYS & LAKES

Patnitop: (85 Km/52 mile)-This famous hill resort is perched on a beautiful plateau at an altitude of 2024 meter across which the Jammu-Srinagar highway passes. Sanasar: (105 Km/65 mile)-A place which looks like a cup is a meadow surrounded by gigantic conifers. A place for quite holiday, the meadow has now been developed as a golf course. It also provides opportunities for para gliding.

Bhaderwah: Bhaderwah is fascinating valley in Jammu and Kashmir. Bhaderwah is a small valley-town in Doda (Jammu and Kashmir). Bhaderwah valley is predominantly a mountainous torrid town situated 80 km from Batote(Near Patnitop). It is full of beautiful meadows and glens. Pahalgam: Pahalgam is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a popular tourist destination, and every year, many tourists visit Pahalgam.Pahalgam is located at 34.03° N 75.33°. It has an average elevation of 2740 metres (8989 feet). Gulmarg: The name means 'Meadow Of Flowers' and in the spring it's just that, a rolling meadow dotted with countless colourful Bluebells, Daisies, Forget Me Not's and Buttercups. Gulmarg was a favourite haunt of Emperor Jehangir who once collected 21 different varieties of flowers from here. The valley of Gulmarg, a large meadow about 3-sq-kms in area, stands at 2,730 metres, 56-km south west of Srinagar. Today Gulmarg is not merely a mountain resort of exceptional beauty- it also has the highest green golf course in the world, at an altitude of 2,650 m, and is the country's premier ski resort in the winter. Dal Lake: The Dal Lake is a famous lake in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, in India. The lake itself is connected to a number of other lakes of the Kashmir valley. It is well known for its shikaras or house boats. The lake spans 18 square Km, and is divided by causeways into four basins, called Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nagin. Lokut-dal and Bod-dal have an island each in the centre, known as Rup Lank (or Char Chinari) and Sona Lank respectively. Along most of the shore of the Lake is a boulevard, lined with Mughal-era gardens, parks, and hotels. During the winter season the lake sometimes freezes over.

Mansar Lake: ( 40 Km/25 mile)-A beautiful lake fringed by forest covered hills. Boating facilities are available at the spot. Every year around Baisakhi, a food and crafts festival is organized here by J & K Tourism.

Surisar Lake: Surinsar is a peaceful, lovely tourist spot with a lake surrounded by wooded hills and pine trees. It is thirty kms away form Jammu, It is increasingly becoming a popular picnic spot. In the center of the lake there is a small island full of green trees which further adds to the beauty of the lake.

Nagin Lake: Leading from the Dal lake is the smaller Nagin Lake. Here, the waters are edged by trees of willow and poplar whose reflection is mirrored in the lake. The waters of the lakes are pleasantly cool from mid-May to mid-September. Nagin Lake, which is farther from town, has magnificent views of the mountains. The gentle soothing motion of the boat, as it glides along the water of these lakes, is unbelievably romantic.

Mamaleshwara: Mamaleshwara is only a km or so downstream from Pahalgam, and on the opposite side of the Lidder It is a small Shiva temple with a square, stone tank.

Bisansar Lake & Krishnasagar Lake: There is a lake in every corner of the Himalayas and there is one at Sonamarg also. The road proceeds from Sonamarg to Bisansar Lake via Nichinai Pass. Crossing the river at Nichinai Pass stands the Bisansar Lake at an altitude of 4, 084m, with its its lovely natural beauty.
